Cune Celebrates:
Renaissance women and men--writers and booklovers who demonstrate skill in different realms of human activity. Writers with savvy and survival skills are a welcome contradiction to the stereotypical writer--utterly dependent upon others (agents, publishers) for his or her success.

Note:
Cune may be the world's only publishing company that is legally organized as a division of a construction company.

Who We Are
Cune was founded in May, 1994 by Scott C. Davis, Mamoun Sakkal, and Elsah "Midge" Bowman. Legally, Cune is a division of The Scott Davis Company, a sole proprietorship registered in the State of Washington.

Cune exists because of volunteer services and substantial charitable donations.  Thanks to:

Cune
Cune is the place where creative artists and writers meet entrepreneurs. It is a gathering place for all who feel that art and literature are a necessity for cultural renewal.

Cune is devoted to two notions:
Creative work requires business skill.
Business enterprise requires heart.

Cune is a protest against the leveling effect of conglomerates on culture. Cune celebrates individual creative work and individual entrepreneurial enterprise.

Cune does not throw wooden shoes into the looms. We welcome new technology that provides inexpensive tools for individuals to bring their art and their enterprise before the public.

Cune Is From?
"Cune" meets ancient Summaria, the Phoenicians, and literary populism.

Why Grassroots Publishing?

Because of hyper-commercialism among major houses, a habit which we trust they will kick as soon as possible. Read more:

Our Evolution
We started out as rebels who protested the injustice that pits literature against commerce (see "Manifesto" above). We have evolved into practical minded people who understand that small scale publishing eeks out a living by selling rights to the conglomerates.

We recognize the necessity for integrating the financial might of conglomerate publishers with the creative verve of grassroots presses.

Still, we look forward to the day when writers and their grassroots presses can reach the reading public directly--without the need to do deals with conglomerate publishers or bookstores.

From the beginning we have recognized that men and women who love literature are found in all kinds of presses, large and small, as are people who are out for a quick buck. Smallness and virtue are not always the same thing.

Your Help
With your tax deductible contributions we will be able to publish cutting edge writers who have not yet become commercially viable. For more info:

Thought
for the Day

Ever go into a Barnes & Noble and notice the portraits of famous writers? Ever find it a little odd that a major corporation would honor writers who couldn't get the time of day when they were alive and struggling?

We wish the staff of  B&N well in what we hope is their increasing effort to assist struggling artists, writers, and grassroots publishers NOW, while they are alive and need the help.
