A Light in the Attic
poems and drawings
by Shel Silverstein

Many are mourning the loss of Shel Silverstein; however, he has left us a beautiful legacy.  Sharon Cumberland, poet and professor at Seattle University (and featured in our WAGS section) highly recommends A Light in the Attic. "I never read him as a child. I was delighted to discover his writing when my friend Jon gave me A Light in the Attic as a Christmas present. He’s a wonderful poet for children, and adults love him because of his clever rhymes. He thinks the way children think. And his illustrations are wonderful".

The title poem reads,
There’s a light on in the attic
Though the house is dark and shuttered,
I can see a flickerin’ flutter,
And I know what it’s about.
There’s a light on in the attic.
I can see it from the outside,
And I know you’re on the inside . . . lookin’ out.
