The Paris Years
of Rosie Kamin
by Richard Teleky

Published by Steerforth Press

Rosie Kamin is living in a part of Paris seldom visited by literature. The key figures in her life are her gravely ill lover Serge, a French intellectual and communist; her former lover, an Algerian, who appears unexpectedly; and her eccentric sister Deb with whom she journeys to Budapest in search of their mother’s childhood home.

"The Paris Years of Rosie Kamin is an anguished and triumphant novel. I’ve seldom been so caught up in the intimate history of a character. Rosie’s life moves forward via romantic torment and haunted ancestry in a severe and finally redemptive kind of mortal combat." Howard Norman, author of The Bird Artist.

From the second chapter of The Paris Years of Rosie Kamin,
Aunt Pearl telephoned. "Aladar and me, we’re taking the children to Israel in August.  A real family vacation.  And Aladar wants you to come along.  He told me to ask you, his sister’s daughter.  It won’t cost you a penny, nothing, all you have to do is lose twenty pounds. That’s easy.  And you’ll get to see Israel."
Was there a beach at the Dead Sea?
Why did her mother take the pills?
Rosie telephoned her uncle to thank him for the offer.   However Israel was the last place on earth she wanted to visit.  "About my mother," she began, tentatively.  "The poor woman’s dead," he interrupted.  "Let her rest in peace."  He rambled on.  There was plenty of time to lose twenty pounds before August.  Just five pounds a month.   Anyone could do it with enough cottage cheese.  Talk to her aunt.

Steerforth Press is committed to publishing serious works of prose, both fiction and non-fiction. Their only tests of a book’s worth are whether it has been written well, is intended to engage the full attention of the reader, and has something new or important to say.   They produce books the old-fashioned way, using only high quality acid-free papers, and all of their hardcover titles are held together with Smythe-sewn bindings.  Visit them at www.steerforth.com for more information.
