THERE'S A
WORD FOR IT!
A Grandiloquent
Guide to Life

by Charles
Harrington Elster

There's A Word For It! is an amazing, comprehensive and fun collection of words and a must for any true word lover.   As I read through this slim volume, alarmed and delighted, I only recognized about one in every fifty words.  You'll find everything from hypobulia (trouble making up one's mind) to mung (chicken feed).  There are chapters devoted to erotographomania and religioverbosity, and every phobia imaginable (or unimaginable – for example, urticariaphobia, fear of itching).  I highly recommend it.
Cathryn Pisarski, Editor of Cune Magazine

Richard Lederer says, "I'm not bloviating mendaciloquently when I croodle to you that every page of There's a Word for It! reminds us of the greatness and glory of our word-rich language."
The author himself says, ". . . what you're about to read (if you dare) is a work of the utmost intellectual incontinence written by a man who is plumb crazy, stark raving mad, and out of his grandiloquent gourd about words."

From Chapter Eight, Snollygosters and Quomodocunquizers,
It seems that in every workplace there are always a few feckless folks who are gnatling (NAT-ling), busy doing nothing, engrossed in trifles.  And I'll be my bottom dollar you've known someone who's forever finding creative ways to snurge, shirk undesirable work, dodge an unpleasant duty.
Speaking of snurging, have you ever met a quiddler?   That's the thumb-twiddling trifler who has perfected the art of loitering around the coffee machine or photocopier, sidetracking more industrious types with trivial conversation. . .

From Chapter Nine, Of Eloquence and Eggheads,
ichnology: study of fossilized footprints.
irenology: study of peace.
kalology: study of beauty, more commonly called aesthetics.
latrinology: study of bathroom graffiti.
