The Complete Butcher's Tales
recently released by Dalkey Archive

butcherstales.jpg (3116 bytes) The Complete Butcher's Tales is made up of nearly sixty stories in the fantastic tradition of Jorge Luis Borges. Rikki Ducornet's work ignores the confines of space and time to offer a cabinet of curiosities in contemporary Cairo, an alchemical ceiling in 18th-century Naples, the hallucinatory inner worlds of psychotics, anthropomorphic planets, and an Old West ruled by necromancy. The Washington Post said, "In the bizarre world of Rikki Ducornet’s fiction, laughter and terror hold hands in an uneasy truce and almost anything can happen."
Both the Dalkey Archive Press and the Review of Contemporary Fiction were created to establish a safe haven for literary art that will protect it from its uncertain fate in the marketplace. While the Review existed to create interest in the work of these writers, many of their books were not available. So, in 1984, Dalkey Archive Press was established to restore such works and to publish new books by contemporary authors.   As of 1999, the Press has published nearly 200 books.
