After receiving a Master's Degree in Communication from the University of Denver, Ortman spent ten years working in the training and development field and received nine national instructional awards. Ortman plays keyboards and has composed Wednesday's Dream, an album of instrumental music. Ortman lives in Bellingham, Washington.
