 John
Milton Wesley, essayist from An Ear to the Ground. Gauche by Shane Reiswig.
Eden's Apple
Collin's first novel, written with a wry,
straightforward sense of twenty-something irony, provides a metaphor that's not lost in
symbolism; there's no need to read between the lines.
Collins skillfully weaves the lives
of the characters in a taut narrative. The imagery is vivid, the plot credible, the
metaphors, like the smart bombs of the Persian Gulf, are right on target.

Comment on Cune Press Books---------
"An Ear to the Ground
is a very good book: a livewire collection brimming with talent. I read it right through
and was grateful to Cune Press for giving the grassroots a chance to grow and
thrive."
- Jonathan Kozol
"What a pleasure! An Ear to the Ground
is as tantalizing as an intimate dinner party at which people truly listen to one another
and hear all kinds of wonderful stories. I admire Scott C. Davis for inviting all these
terrific people to the table. The Profiles are an innovative addition, as inviting as a
warm introduction."
- Naomi Shihab Nye

The World of Patience Gromes: Making
and Unmaking a Black Community
"A fascinating, close-up look at the lives of poor black people
in a time of change and tension, and an affirmation of the traditional values that enabled
black survival."
- John E. Jacob, as President, National Urban League
"A small but important gem of a book. Its virtues are vivid
characters, a fascinating story, and a transparently clear and often moving prose
style."
- Wall Street Journal
