[Available in fall of 2020 in hardcover]

The guns in Aleppo have fallen silent. At some point, the Syrian civil war of bombs and bullets and the interior war of one ideology against another will come to an end. Then, Syrians of all stripes will look to their common heritage to rebuild their society.

Aleppo may be the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world. Its ancient Citadel, covered market, and Umayyad mosque are UNESCO World Heritage sites.

In this "children's book for adults," a long time resident of Aleppo takes a tour of the old quarter and provides historical sketches and photos for those who value what was lost and are eager to see the treasures of Aleppo rebuilt and a vigorous civil society restored.

(This hardcover has the same content as the paperback version with the title Visit the Old City of Aleppo. The hardcover name was altered to facilitate national distribution.)

White Carnations is a collection of 101 very short tales that capture the unfolding Syrian tragedy. It is one writer’s plea in the face of horrific suffering of individuals from all walks of Syrian life. These Kafkaesque tales briefly sketch the nasty turns of fate of individuals trapped at home, subjected to the whimsical atrocities committed by pro-Assad, paramilitary hooligans against helpless, innocent civilians, or forced to flee the war-torn country. (Very short fiction based on fact by a noted Syrian author.)

Nietzsche Awakens! is a philosophical work, written entirely in aphorisms. It is an analytical way to trigger readers to think; to negate the “common sense” notions; to re-question the raison d’être of principles and elements; to refuse the “absolutes”; to criticize the epistemology and the methodology of sciences; and to wonder about the ontology of the human being and his teleology. The first part of the book consists of “modifying” Nietzsche’s aphorisms, either to contradict his sayings or to be even more cynical than he is, or to explore new dimensions to his thinking.

The second part consists of persuading him, to accept the author’s refutation. Indeed, the main concept of the book is to concretize "The Eternal Recurrence." Rather than being influenced by Nietzsche, the author is bringing Nietzsche alive. Rather than saying the author is influenced by Nietzsche, can't we say that the author enables Nietzsche's aphorisms to expand, innovate, and enrich themselves?

Altering Nietzsche’s aphorisms requires intellectual effort, because they are configured in a way that they are difficult or impossible to break down. Other philosophers are understood from the first reading. But the challenge with Nietzsche is to commensurate the incommensurable. Nietzche's aphorisms tackle problems in human and physical sciences, as well as in art and architecture.
